Missions
First Baptist Church, founded in 1789, has a long and rich history in Laurinburg. As changes occur in all denominations, we have chosen to be affiliated with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship for many years now. Our hope is to use the talents of all members to serve all people. We welcome all visitors and groups to our worship community; none are excluded.
While Sunday services always inspire with meaningful sermons and beautiful music, we also strive to be a weekday church and to share our resources and time with many others. Our budget for Missions is always set at 10% of our total church revenues. That 10% is then allocated by set percentages to specific institutions and agencies, both Baptist related and ecumenical.
Some of our local mission projects include: partnering with Scotland County Senior Services for ramp building, sponsoring Cub Scout Pack 444, and hosting Vacation Bible School open to the greater community. We also have church members who serve actively with Church Community Services, Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Center, Literacy Council, and a Bible prison ministry. Those groups and many others are in our monthly budgets. Our WMU groups participate in the Appalachian Book Bag project, and our church members pack shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.
First Baptist is proud to have sponsored and built a Habitat House. One Saturday each year is dedicated to outreach through Operation In-As-Much; as we spread out to deliver home-baked goods, visits, yard work, and repair services to our greater community.
First Baptist, working in collaboration with other local churches, has sponsored Night to Shine, a huge prom-like event for people with special needs. Our pastor, choir, and members have participated in community worship services during the seasons of Christmas and Easter and in other county-wide events such as March for Our Lives.
As we continue to seek God’s leadership for our areas of service, we invite others to join us. We are able to do so much more with many different hands, hearts, and histories.
